The Sword

The sword I carry was originally owned by my Maternal Grandfather. Used in the rituals of his position, the arm has never yet tasted battle. That is ... not the battle between two blades.

At the time of my Grandfather's passing, much turmoil was raised in his house as the various members of the family set about distributing his estate and holdings. My mother, the youngest of the children, could but stand by and watch as heirloom after precious heirloom went to this sibling or that. Never did her hand raise, her lips part .. or her thoughts be heard among the rabble.

Until the sword...

With its finely tooled leather case, and striking inlays .. the sword had always stood out in her mind as the symbol of her Father. And so .. she wanted it. By God, she would have it too.

And now, with the advancing years, the Sword has been passed on to me. Oldest son of My mother.

Of particular interest to me is the description of the Man of Swords Tarot card. To wit:

MAN OF SWORDS
This man is a harsh but just person. The card may represent a professional man - lawyer etc or someone who works in the services. He administers his life, through the knowledge he has gained, with authority and organisation - a place for everything and everything in its place. He likes to guide people into his way of thinking and to lay down the law as he sees it. He demands justice because of a principle but needs to be open-minded to others' opinions.
